First celebrated Earth day - New York, 22 April 1970

We only have one earth, so we need to take care of her. That's what Senator Nelson believed. He was disturbed that an issue as important as our environment was not addressed in politics or by the media, so he created the first Earth Day, on April 22, 1970. An estimated 20 million people nationwide attended festivities that day. It was a truly astonishing grassroots explosion... it was also the year Simon and Garfunkel released "Bridge over Troubled Water" composed by Paul Simon ... The last song recorded for their fifth and final album ... Vocals in New York and instrumentals recorded in California ...

Inspiration “Eventually everything connects—people, ideas, objects… the quality of the connections is the key to quality per se… I don’t believe in this ‘gifted few’ concept, just in people doing things they are really interested in doing. They have a way of getting good at whatever it is”.
