The magic of Charles and Ray Eames
The inspiring couple who loved deeply, each other and the world around them, they met in 1940 and this creative meeting of minds was to become a collaborative journey with a passion for ideas, function, connectivity and pushing artistic boundaries.
Eames is and always will be a special moment in time when the stars aligned and creativity was brought to us in its essence, pealing away layers while bringing back the nobility of function and simplicity.
The couples collaborative spirit stands nowhere taller than in their Pacific Palisades Home, built nine years after they first met. It was to be an escape, a studio, a gathering place, made of prefabricated pieces and seventeen foot high ceilings, from and steel. Hans Hoffman canvases suspended from the ceiling, it was an authentic place to learn, connect, create and inspire for most that dwelled or visited, the house on the hill looking through the trees to the ocean in the distance, a place where dinner parties ran till morning and Ray was known to serve flowers to her adoring guests for pudding.
This couple inspired a creative and spiritual belief system, a holistic vision of design that to this day, may be unsurpassed in its consciousness.
In their words …
"Eventually everything connects - people, ideas, objects. The quality of the connections is the key to quality per se"
To breaking bread, functionality, and to purpose, friends and flowers.
